West Alabama men’s soccer improved to 2-0

MONTEVALLO – West Alabama men’s soccer sophomore Thibault Charmey posted the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Montevallo on Tuesday.

“We are absolutely delighted to get win against a real quality opponent,” said UWA head men’s soccer coach Matthew Thorne. “Our lads worked hard defensively and this win will go a long way for us this season. We are ready to get into conference play and this win will go a long way.”

Charmey’s early second half goal in the 47′ propelled West Alabama to its second straight 2-0 season start and delivered Montevallo its first loss of the year.

The match proved an overall stalemate as the Falcons outshot the Tigers 11-10. Starting sophomore goalie Lavares Stone picked up his second victory of the year but split the shutout with freshman Evan Pidgeon who entered in the 43′.

UWA men’s soccer will now take to Gulf South Conference action for the first time this season as they travel to take on Delta State on Friday. The match is set for 3:30 p.m. in Cleveland, Miss.
